Baby Modeling Agencies - The Truth & Scams Revealed

Before I offer any suggestions and tips in finding legitimate baby modeling agencies, you need to be aware of the potential scams, pitfalls and con artists that prey on the emotions of unsuspecting parents.

When you know what to look out for, what to avoid, and what to run from, locating a baby modeling agency is going to be really straight forward.

First and foremost, there are scammers, con artists, and sadly, even pedophiles, out there. For that reason, memorize the following facts. Never forget them!

• Should you have to pay upfront fees? Any good and legitimate modeling agencies will never, ever, ask you for payment and/or fees up front. They will take a percentage of the baby's salary - also known as a commission - only when they land your baby a job. If your baby doesn't do any modeling work, you should never be asked to pay a cent. Fact!
• Do you need to have professional baby photos taken and/or should you be asked to pay for professional photos? Absolutely NOT! If you are, take that as a sign that you are in the process of getting scammed. Run! Professional photos of babies are not required by any legitimate and reputable agencies, rather the opposite. Babies change and grow far too quickly. Photos will not be asked for. Fact!
• What about Internet based agencies? Sadly, pedophiles exist, and they hide behind Internet based identities and/or fictional Internet based agencies. I am not suggesting that all web-based agencies are bad, but as a precautionary rule-of-thumb, don't deal with an online agency unless you are 100% sure it's reputable. Pedophiles will try and get hold of your baby photos in all sorts of creative ways.

Reputable agencies don't advertise and solicit their services - fact! They don't need to. Be aware of applying to an agency through an ad in your local paper or hand out flyer. It's not how "real" agencies recruit baby models. Don't do it!

The Yellow Pages is a great place to find a plumber, handyman, car repair shop, but it's no place to go looking for a baby modeling agency. Don't do it!

What's more, "real" reputable agencies don't recruit potential baby models in your local mall and/or on the streets using scouts. If you get approached at one of these places, 9.9 times out of 10, it's a scammer. Don't do it!

For the most part, just remember the aforementioned points and you'll be in a good position to avoid any pitfalls.

Avoid the pitfalls and follow these tips. Your baby will soon be landing modeling job after modeling job - and pocketing some nice cash along the way :-)

In an effort to streamline the application process, some of the larger national magazines now post a definitive list of modeling agencies that they deal with exclusively. This is a great way to locate a list of reputable baby modeling agencies. Browse the websites of these larger magazine companies, and, of course, look inside each publication.

Another great tip is to head down to your local library and look at the major national magazine back issues. Every so often the magazine will run an official Cover Model Contest (such as the March 2005 issue of Parents).
